AutoSave vs. a fixed-rate electricity plan in Ohio

Both manage the supply portion of your bill — but in very different ways. Here's how to decide which fits your situation, with honest reasons to prefer either.

The core difference

A fixed-rate plan locks in a specific supply price per kWh for a contract term — you know your rate, but you shop, compare, and renew yourself. AutoSave manages supply through an authorization: it compares a personalized Think Energy rate to your utility's Price to Compare and manages the supply for you. Rates can change monthly and are not disclosed in advance.

Reasons to prefer a fixed-rate plan

  • You want budget certainty — knowing your supply rate for the full term.
  • You're willing to shop and compare offers on Ohio Apples to Apples.
  • You want to lock in a rate you believe is favorable for the term.
  • You're comfortable managing renewal and avoiding lapses.

Reasons to prefer AutoSave

  • You want supply managed for you without shopping every renewal.
  • You're comfortable with a rate that can change monthly, in exchange for low effort.
  • You like the authorization model over signing a new fixed contract each term.
  • You understand savings aren't guaranteed and protection has limits.

When neither is clearly better

If you already have a competitive fixed-rate contract or a strong municipal aggregation rate, switching to AutoSave may not make sense right now. Review your current rate, contract end date, and any termination fee before deciding. An existing rate could already be lower.

The honest caveat

AutoSave does not guarantee savings, and its rates can change monthly. A fixed-rate plan gives certainty but requires effort and may include cancellation fees. Neither approach covers your entire bill — both affect only the supply portion. Delivery, taxes, and utility fees are separate.
